چکیده

Context Baleen whale calves rapidly increase in size and improve locomotion abilities, while on their low-latitude breeding ground, allowing them to undertake a successful migration high-latitude feeding grounds. Aims We investigated energy expenditure resting behaviour of humpback (Megaptera novaeangliae) mother–calf pairs regard changes calf length an undisturbed breeding/resting ground off Exmouth Gulf, Western Australia. Methods Data were collected from August October 2018 2019 lactating mothers that predominantly the surface with calf. Focal follows (n = 101) conducted using unmanned aerial vehicle obtain detailed video behaviours respirations (23.7 h). Body measurements individual whales calculated still frames. Key results Results ranging ~4–8 m demonstrated respiration rate decreased increased presence activity (P < 0.001). Calf inter-breath intervals became longer duration 0.01). level remained constant, logging for 53% time logging. Maternal low did not differ respect maternal or length. Conclusions highlighted importance grounds preservation, which benefits calves’ rapid growth before polar waters. Implications Findings present largely population serve as baseline understanding impacts anthropogenic disturbance globally.

Energy Harvesting for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are a critical component of many military operations. Over the last few decades, the evolution of UAVs has given rise to increasingly smaller aircraft. Along with the development of smaller UAVs, termed mini UAVs, has come issues involving the endurance of the aircraft. Endurance in mini UAVs is problematic because of the limited size of the fuel systems that can...

Distributed Control for Collective Behaviour in Micro - Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

The work presented herein focuses on the design of distributed autonomous controllers for collective behaviour of Micro-unmanned Aerial Vehicles (MAVs). Two alternative approaches to this topic are introduced: one based upon the Evolutionary Robotics (ER) paradigm, the other one upon flocking principles. Three computer simulators have been developed in order to carry out the required experiment...

Reconfigurable Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have been developing dramatically due to wars and miniaturisation of technology, which has made the UAV industry a very lucrative business. Research organisations have been funded by various research committees or military groups to push UAV developments at a very fast pace. Although these UAVs are high in capability, they are limited to a single use application ...

Precision wildlife monitoring using unmanned aerial vehicles.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) represent a new frontier in environmental research. Their use has the potential to revolutionise the field if they prove capable of improving data quality or the ease with which data are collected beyond traditional methods. We apply UAV technology to wildlife monitoring in tropical and polar environments and demonstrate that UAV-derived counts of colony nesting ...
